Creek Fire, Shaver Lake 2020

My family camped at Huntington Lake the last two weeks of August every year in the late 70’s.
I sailed the entire lake on catamarans, and later windsurfed it.

Best memories ever!

I distinctly remember when some corporation was granted a contract for  management of the campgrounds, in the early 80’s  under Reagan. Seemingly detached from the U.S.F.S., they cut many young trees down and closed several spots within the campgrounds surrounding the lake, making them sterile, naked and unnatural.

Years of severe drought coupled with inadequate forest resource management have created ideal conditions for wildfires.
Major fires have ravaged many prime mountain, valley and forest regions throughout California, particularly since 2017, but increasingly from as far back as 2012, compared to statistical norms.

Alas, the paradise of my youth was nearly destroyed in 2020.
